If the metal underneath is still solid and there are no holes, this is a repair. We treat the rust, prime it and reseal. Total cost typically $249 to $450.

If you can push a screwdriver through the rust, or you see daylight from inside the gutter, that section is finished. At that point we look at how much of the run is affected. One bay can be replaced. Three or four bays of holes usually means the rest isn't far behind.

2. Sagging or pulling away from the fascia

Sagging is almost always a bracket problem, not a gutter problem. Old spike-and-ferrule fixings rust out, brackets fatigue, and the weight of a wet gutter full of leaves pulls the front edge down. New hidden hangers spaced at 600mm centres usually fix it for under $400.

The exception is when the fascia timber behind the gutter has rotted. If we screw a new bracket in and it spins in soft wood, you've got a bigger job.
